Re-established in 2020
Originally built in the 1970s by Murry Myrick, 101 Greensboro Street was a classic OBX cottage in a wide-open expanse of sand. As the years went by, despite being well-used and well-loved by the Myrick family, the house fell into disrepair. But in 2020, the sad little shack that the family cottage had become was torn down and Avalon Crush was built. A beach house that provides guests modern amenities, the coastal spirit, and access to all things Outer Banks, Avalon Crush is located in the town of Kill Devils Hills, and just a couple of blocks from the sandy beaches on the Atlantic Ocean.

The Bonzer Shack
The most laid back beach grill on the Outer Banks featuring bistro quality Coastal Comfort Food all with a throwback to the surfboard shapers and wave riders on the break! The Shack has an inviting and warm old school driftwood atmosphere, an awesome yard with outdoor games and tables located on the Beach Road at MP 9.5.
The Bonzer shack is the perfect place to ride your bike to, grab a drink and chill in the yard. Don’t forget to order some tacos and fried plantains! And the Bonzer punch is a must if you enjoy a rum drink.

Local Lighthouses
One of the most iconic things about the Outer Banks are the gorgeous and unique lighthouses. There are six lighthouses on the islands: Currituck Beach, Bodie Island, Cape Hatteras, Cape Lookout, Ocracoke Island and the Roanoke Marshes. However, if you’re looking to get some stairs in and climb to the top you can only do so at Currituck, Bodie Island, Hatteras (currently closed for renovations) and Cape Lookout.

Vinny's Pizza Joint
Vinny’s Sicilian Pizza Joint is one of the few authentic Italian restaurants in the Outer Banks. Located in Kitty Hawk at MP 4.5. Restaurant owner and chef, Vinny Caggese, who’s family is originally from Sicily, makes a pie that can’t be beat.
Really though, we’ve tried a bunch of pizza spots up and down the island and have never had a pizza like Vinny’s. Our favorite is the Meat the Don (look at that pie!) They offer a great vegan pie, too! Our mouths are watering just thinking about it…

Food Dudes Kitchen
Food Dudes Kitchen is a family friendly mellow eatery with a surf-shack vibe on MP 9 on the beach road in Kill Devil Hills, NC. Established in 2008, Food Dudes prides itself with the freshest ingredients and local seafood for their Carribean and Mexican inspired dishes offered on the Outer Banks. Their dishes are unlike any other on the beach!
Seriously, look at those crab cakes. And don’t be afraid to order the fresh tuna tacos. It’s literally a massive slab of perfectly rare tuna with just the right amount of accoutrements.

Swells'a Brewing
Craft beers brewed with the beach in mind, Swells’a is the newest brewery on the Outer Banks. It’s impeccably fresh and clean on the inside with two stories for hanging out with a board game and flight, and a spacious outdoor area and deck for basking in the sun with a saison. Located on the beach road, it’s an easy bike ride for this awesome brewery.

Surfin' Spoon
The Surfin’ Spoon offers 10 flavors of self-serve soft-serve (wow, that’s a mouthful), and about 50 toppings. Grab a bowl and create your own combination! Find a place to hang out in this charming establishment and enjoy the vibe!
Don’t want to wait in a line? No worries, they have a freezer with at least five different flavors of ice cream sandwiches made from scratch at the Surfin’ Spoon. These are absolutely our most FAVORITE thing and we get a few every time we’re here.

North Carolina Aquarium
The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island is located in Manteo, NC, nine miles from the Atlantic coastline in Nags Head. The 61,000 square-foot facility is sited on 16 acres overlooking the Croatan Sound and houses over 2,200 animals.
But the best part is their sea turtle rehabilitation program where you can walk through the quarantine space and see the turtles up close and personal!

Lost Treasure Mini Golf
The noted explorer, archaeologist, anthropologist, paleontologist, and part-time plumbing contractor from the University of Chicago, Professor Duffer A. Hacker, led two expeditions to the outer banks in the late 1920’s. The purpose of these expeditions was to search for an answer as to what happened to the lost colony of Roanoke Island and to look for treasure believed to have been hidden by Blackbeard the Pirate!
Our favorite thing about Lost Treasure Golf is taking the mining car to the top of the mountain to start our mini golf expedition to find gold and diamonds. We hope you enjoy this Kill Devil Hills mini golf course!
